In 2003, I left the UK with a one-year working holiday visa for Australia—a journey that unexpectedly evolved into 20 years of living in incredible places like Sydney, Singapore, Shanghai, Bali, and Ibiza. With each move, I honed my ability to navigate unfamiliar property markets, find homes that met my needs and budget, and connect with international communities wherever I went.

When I was finally ready to stop renting and had saved enough to buy my own home, I was excited to begin the next chapter of my life in Spain. But as I started researching the process, I began to realise how challenging it was going to be. What I thought would take a few months turned into a long, expensive and stressful three-year journey. ​

The same month I moved into my new home in Calafell, I also turned 50 - a milestone birthday - and whilst I loved my corporate career I realized I was ready for a change, and wanted to spend the next chapter of my life doing something more meaningful, something that could make a real difference in people’s lives.

Drawing on my professional background in project management, optimising and delivering complex workflows and inspired by my recent personal experience of buying a home in Spain, I saw an opportunity to create something better for home buyers.

That’s why I founded Homesmith.
